PHDC Deepens Ties with Western Nzema Chiefs as 2026 Declared Year of Action for Ghana’s Petroleum Hub

The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) has launched 2026 as a pivotal “Year of Action,” intensifying collaboration with Western Nzema traditional leaders and fast-tracking key partnerships to drive Ghana’s landmark Petroleum Hub project forward. Backed by strong presidential and ministerial support, the PHDC is set to transform ambitious plans into tangible progress, positioning the Hub as a catalyst for regional industrial growth and energy sector transformation.

Jomoro | January 26, 2026 - As the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) ramps up momentum for one of Africa’s most ambitious energy projects, 2026 is set to be a landmark year marked by intensified engagement with local stakeholders and a strategic push to translate partnerships into tangible progress.

In a recent visit to the Western Nzema Traditional Council, PHDC’s Deputy CEO Onasis Kobby Rosely reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to accelerating development and fostering inclusive growth within the Jomoro Municipality. “You will see more action this year,” Rosely assured the chiefs, underscoring the PHDC’s renewed focus on collaboration with traditional authorities as a foundational pillar for success.

This pledge echoes the declaration by PHDC CEO Dr. Toni Aubynn, who named 2026 the “Year of Action” for the Petroleum Hub Project. His roadmap calls for expedited implementation of infrastructure, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and strategic alignment with Ghana’s broader energy transition goals. The recent courtesy call on Paramount Chief Awulae Kwasi Armahchi III of the Western Nzema Traditional Council further solidified the social license that PHDC is cultivating to underpin its ambitious agenda.

The Petroleum Hub is not operating in a vacuum. Presidential and ministerial backing have framed the project as a national priority, as Energy Minister Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor outlined a comprehensive strategic course for 2026 focused on the Petroleum Hub’s development and transformative potential for Ghana’s energy sector. This high-level endorsement anchors the PHDC’s efforts within Ghana’s broader vision for economic diversification and sustainable growth.

The momentum is tangible, building on a foundation of strategic partnerships brokered in 2025. Key agreements with global firms such as Mannschaft and Chemexa Petrochemical Trading and the Afdat Group of Companies, alongside collaboration with Surbana Jurong on infrastructure and master planning, have laid the groundwork for the Hub’s emergence as a critical regional energy nexus. These deals, coupled with PHDC’s intensified community outreach, position the Petroleum Hub to catalyze a new era of industrial development in Ghana’s Western Region.

As PHDC transitions from planning to execution, 2026 promises to be a decisive year. The corporation’s pledge to “see more action” signals an operational phase poised to convert ambitious blueprints into concrete assets and shared prosperity — aligning traditional authority engagement, government support, and private sector investment into a coherent narrative of progress and promise.
