Energy Minister inaugurates new Bui Power Authority Board to lead Ghana’s Clean Energy Transition.

Accra, July 4, 2025 - Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has inaugurated a newly reconstituted Board of Directors for the Bui Power Authority (BPA), assigning them the task of strengthening governance frameworks, reevaluating current energy agreements, and establishing the Authority as a pivotal force in the nation’s clean energy initiatives.

During the inauguration event in Accra, Hon. Jinapor openly addressed the difficulties presently facing BPA, specifically with direct energy procurement procedures, price inefficiencies, and strategic drift.  He underscored the Ministry's commitment to fostering budgetary discipline and initiating a new epoch of policy transparency and operational accountability. The Minister remarked,

“Following an initial evaluation upon taking office, it was clear that the company’s pricing structures, and strategic priorities necessitated immediate intervention.”

The Authority has initiated solar projects; however, attention must now shift to battery-integrated solar solutions to ensure energy reliability. Over the following weeks, I will introduce comprehensive changes aimed at enhancing contract performance and eliminating systemic inefficiencies.

Hon. Jinapor conveyed complete confidence in the new board's capacity to advance this revolutionary agenda, highlighting the group's unique expertise in governance, engineering, and public service as a valuable asset for the development of the energy sector.

The newly appointed Board Chairman, Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, sent gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for his appointment, assuring stakeholders of the board's commitment to establishing a bold and strategic direction for the Authority.

“We recognise the urgency; escalating demand, climate responsibilities, and the necessity for energy resilience,” he said.

The board is wholly dedicated to advancing the BPA's contributions to Ghana's net-zero objectives, emphasising operational excellence, sound governance, and innovative energy solutions.

The nomination of the new board is seen as part of extensive changes in Ghana’s power sector aimed at aligning state-owned utilities with national economic objectives, renewable energy aspirations, and climate change obligations.

The newly inaugurated Board members include:

  • Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo – Chairman

  • Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam – Acting Chief Executive Officer

  • Dr. Edna Agyepong

  • Fuseina Sulemana

  • Ing. Yao Gomado, MP

  • Mohammed Kwaku Doku

The newly inaugurated BPA Board has been empowered to advance Ghana’s energy security and green transition, with a key focus on scaling battery-backed solar and hybrid systems, as well as long-term resilience projects.
