PHDC’s Dr. Toni Aubynn Recognised for ESG Leadership as Petroleum Hub Vision Gains Momentum
ACCRA | 25 September 2025 – Dr. Toni Aubynn, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), has been recognized as ESG & Sustainability Ambassador 2025, underscoring his role in steering Ghana’s proposed $60 billion Petroleum Hub project through a strategy rooted in global partnerships and sustainable development. His award arrives as the PHDC intensifies efforts to attract international capital and align Ghana’s downstream ambitions with modern ESG standards.
Under Dr. Aubynn’s stewardship, PHDC has accelerated its international engagement, seeking anchor investors and technical partners to anchor the hub in sustainable and globally compliant frameworks. According to PHDC, the project envisions three integrated refineries with a combined capacity of 900,000 barrels per stream day, alongside petrochemical plants, storage, and port facilities in Jomoro.
At recent investor outreach sessions — including forums in Asia — PHDC advanced discussions with potential stakeholders, presenting Ghana’s hub as a future regional anchor for refining, storage, and trading. The corporation has also boosted its visibility at international conventions, linking its hub agenda to wider energy-transition and sustainability dialogues. These efforts highlight governance, ESG compliance, and long-term resilience as central to attracting capital for such large-scale infrastructure.
Dr. Aubynn’s recognition as ESG & Sustainability Ambassador signals acknowledgement of PHDC’s intent to embed environmental and social responsibility into the Petroleum Hub vision. “Sustainability is not optional — it is essential to attract long-term capital,” Aubynn noted in a recent statement. Yet the real test, analysts say, will be delivering on that balance: securing financing, ensuring environmental safeguards, and meeting community expectations as plans move from concept to construction.
Looking ahead, PHDC is positioning itself as a central institution in Ghana’s energy transformation — one that will be judged by its ability to combine credible governance, strong ESG credentials, and tangible investment outcomes. Observers will watch how the corporation translates its vision into concrete milestones and navigates the complex trade-offs of building Africa’s largest integrated petroleum hub.
