GOIL Board Deepens Oversight with Familiarization Tour of Tema Operations
Tema | 25 August 2025 — The newly inaugurated Board of Directors of GOIL PLC has embarked on an onboarding and familiarization tour of the company’s operational facilities in Tema, reinforcing its governance mandate and commitment to strategic growth.
The visit follows the official inauguration of the GO Energy Company Limited Board in May, during which the Energy Minister charged the board with the responsibility of transforming the company into the most reliable Bulk Distribution Company (BDC) in the country. At the swearing-in ceremony, the minister emphasized that GOIL’s unique position as the country’s second-largest player in the downstream petroleum sector requires a strong board that can drive efficiency, expand market share, and maintain the company’s reputation for integrity and innovation.
During the Tema tour, directors engaged directly with management and staff, receiving detailed briefings on fuel storage, distribution infrastructure, and safety systems. The exercise was designed to provide the board with firsthand insight into GOIL’s operational strengths and challenges, equipping members to align governance priorities with the company’s long-term objectives.
The familiarization exercise also reaffirmed the board’s responsibility to balance shareholder value with national energy security. Directors underscored the importance of technological innovation, sustainability, and efficiency in maintaining GOIL’s competitive edge in the rapidly evolving downstream sector.
As part of the tour, the board highlighted the need for continuous collaboration between leadership and staff to achieve operational excellence. This aligns with the minister’s earlier charge for the board to not only strengthen GOIL’s financial and market performance but also to play a strategic role in Ghana’s energy security and transition agenda.
By combining governance oversight with direct operational exposure, the board has positioned itself to deliver on its mandate—ensuring that GOIL continues to build on its track record of growth, while consolidating its place as a leader in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
