GNPC Marks 40 Years with Presidential Gala, Showcasing Energy Leadership and National Impact

Accra | 18 September 2025 - The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has marked its 40th anniversary with a Presidential Gala that reflected on four decades of service to Ghana’s petroleum sector. The celebration, attended by senior government officials, energy executives, and international partners, underscored GNPC’s evolving role in exploration, energy security, and sustainable development. The milestone provided a platform to honour the Corporation’s past achievements while mapping its contribution to Ghana’s future energy agenda.

Since its establishment in 1983, GNPC has been at the forefront of petroleum exploration and capacity building, contributing significantly to Ghana’s transformation into a hydrocarbon-producing nation. Over the years, it has provided technical leadership in upstream operations while also serving as a strategic investor in energy infrastructure and national development initiatives. Recent board changes, including the inauguration of a new GNPC Board, reflect the Corporation’s intent to steer its activities with renewed governance and focus on long-term energy security.

Beyond exploration and production, GNPC has increasingly tied its mandate to sustainability and community impact. Through partnerships such as its collaboration with the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, GNPC has demonstrated commitment to education, research, and responsible resource management. At the corporate level, its Legal Department’s recognition at the 2025 Legal Leadership Ceremony highlights how governance and professional excellence are also being embedded into its operations.

The 40th anniversary gala also placed GNPC’s future into focus. As Ghana explores new frontier basins, including prospects in the Voltaian Basin, GNPC is positioned to deepen partnerships while ensuring that national interests remain central.
