Ghana Gas: Powering Ghana’s Energy Future Through Strategic Growth, Governance, and Leadership

Ghana Gas is entering a defining chapter — one shaped by national acclaim, structural reform, and an unmistakable rise in global stature. From governance-driven transformation to major international engagements and sweeping institutional honours, the company is positioning itself as the backbone of Ghana’s gas future and an emerging force in Africa’s energy transition.

National Recognition & Sustainable Growth

Ghana Gas entered the final quarter of 2025 with a powerful wave of national recognition, underscoring its expanding leadership in Ghana’s energy landscape. CEO Judith Adjobah Blay continued her historic ascent with two major honours: Energy Personality of the Year (Female) at the 9th Ghana Energy Awards and the Ultimate Women’s Leadership Award in Energy at the 7th Women’s Choice Awards Africa. These achievements highlighted her position as the first woman to lead Ghana Gas and celebrated her impact in strengthening operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and local content development.

Institutionally, Ghana Gas also achieved significant acclaim, including the Leading Excellence in Natural Gas and Management Award at the Women’s Choice Awards and multiple distinctions at the Sustainability and Social Investment Awards — among them Best Company in Project Promotion and Providing Clean Energy and Sustainable Oil and Gas Company of the Year. A strong delegation of board members, management, and staff accompanied the CEO to these ceremonies, reflecting deep internal confidence in the company’s direction and leadership.

Earlier in the year, the company made an impressive showing at the Western Regional Business Awards, securing top institutional honours including Company of the Year, Corporate Social Investment Company of the Year, and the Local Content Partnership Award. Combined, these recognitions affirmed Ghana Gas’s fast-rising influence in national development, community empowerment, and governance excellence.

To consolidate this momentum, Ghana Gas has proposed a 91% tariff adjustment — raising gas prices from US$1.10 to US$2.10 per MMBtu — submitted to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission. The adjustment is designed to protect operational stability, strengthen financial sustainability, and unlock a new phase of strategic gas infrastructure investments. Alongside this, the company reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to eliminating routine gas flaring by 2026, reinforcing environmental responsibility while ensuring long-term supply security.

Planned expansions — including new processing capacity, improved grid integration, and additional pipeline infrastructure — underscore a careful balance between growth, energy reliability, and environmental stewardship.

As Ms. Blay observed:

“Our engagements at GASTECH and Africa Oil Week demonstrate Ghana Gas’s commitment to operational excellence and strategic growth. These platforms allow us to secure critical investments to expand Ghana’s gas infrastructure and support the nation’s energy ambitions.”

A Year of Transformation and Accountability

Against this backdrop of national acclaim, Ghana Gas’s performance narrative in 2024–2025 reveals a company undergoing deep transformation, guided by strong governance and disciplined stewardship. At its October 2025 Annual General Meeting, Board Chairman Hon. Kofi Totobi Quakyi reaffirmed the company’s commitment to productivity, accountability, and integrity — principles he described as the pillars of Ghana Gas’s new era of sustainable growth.

Reflecting on 2024, Hon. Quakyi highlighted several critical achievements: surpassing revenue targets, acquiring the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company to accelerate Ghana’s clean energy transition, and completing a strategic 3.8km pipeline extension to the Tema Free Zones enclave. A landmark Gas Sales Agreement with Tetracore Limited established Ghana’s first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project, while continued progress on the expansion of Gas Processing Plant II (GPP II) signaled ongoing investment in long-term supply resilience.

On governance, Hon. Quakyi stressed a culture of learning and reform:
“Highlighting these issues is not about assigning blame, it is about drawing lessons and applying them with greater discipline as we move forward.”

His optimism was clear:
“The lessons of 2024 have laid a strong foundation for reform and growth. Ghana Gas is poised to become not only a reliable processor and supplier of natural gas, but also a benchmark for good corporate governance and impact-driven development.”

Beyond Energy: Social Impact and Stakeholder Dialogue

Beyond operational and financial performance, Ghana Gas continued to invest in social welfare and stakeholder accountability. In October 2024, the company donated GHC 20,000 to the Korle Bu Breast Care Unit, supporting women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. General Manager (Legal) Sylvia Assimeng Archer underscored the gesture’s importance:

“Good health is the foundation of a strong and thriving society. This donation represents our solidarity with women battling breast cancer and serves as a reminder that they are not alone.”

The initiative aligned with the Mahama Cares Initiative, demonstrating the company’s alignment with national social development priorities.

In a further display of transparency and collaboration, Ghana Gas hosted the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy in November 2024. CEO Blay highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the early completion of the August plant shutdown, and emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue between industry and policymakers. Committee Chair Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah commended the company for its openness and pledged parliamentary support for its ongoing initiatives.

2025: Elevating Ghana Gas on the Global Stage

Ghana Gas’s growing national stature has been matched by a significant expansion in its international footprint. At GASTECH 2025 in Milan, CEO Blay led a senior Ghanaian delegation comprising the ministers of Energy and Green Transition, Finance, and Justice. With more than 48,000 industry leaders in attendance, the event provided a strategic platform to court global investment and strengthen partnerships to expand gas infrastructure and secure Ghana’s energy future.

At the 31st Africa Oil Week in Accra, the company reinforced its commitment to Africa’s energy advancement through innovation, regional collaboration, and a forward-looking approach to the energy transition. These global engagements solidified Ghana Gas’s identity as a rising continental player shaping energy security, supply resilience, and sustainable development.

Looking Ahead

From foundational reforms and operational milestones in 2024 to sweeping national acclaim and global positioning in 2025, Ghana Gas is charting an ambitious path defined by resilience, structural clarity, and strategic discipline. Its integrated approach — blending infrastructure development, governance excellence, environmental consciousness, and community impact — positions the company not only as the backbone of Ghana’s domestic gas ecosystem, but as an emerging beacon of sustainable energy leadership across Africa.
