ENI to Boost Natural Gas Supply by 30 MMscfd Starting July 13, Temporarily Suspends Exports
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a major enhancement to the nation's natural gas infrastructure, with ENI set to increase its daily supply by 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) beginning Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The supply upgrade will bring ENI's total natural gas output to 270 MMscfd, representing a strategic move to strengthen the country's energy infrastructure and ensure more reliable energy supply for citizens.
Temporary Export Suspension Required
To facilitate the critical upgrade, ENI will temporarily halt its gas export operations. Ministry spokesperson Richmond Rockson described this as an "essential measure for optimizing the supply chain and ensuring the successful implementation of the supply increase."
The temporary suspension of exports will impact gas availability for power generation during the transition period, the ministry acknowledged in its announcement.
Mitigation Measures in Place
Recognizing the potential for power supply disruptions, the Ministry has worked closely with power sector stakeholders to implement comprehensive contingency measures. The government has established enhanced monitoring systems for power generation facilities across the country, ensuring real-time oversight of energy production capabilities during the transition period. Additionally, detailed contingency plans have been developed and deployed to minimize any potential impact on power supply to consumers and businesses. The Ministry has also coordinated response protocols with key industry players to ensure seamless communication and rapid deployment of backup measures should any disruptions occur.
"We are confident that these proactive steps will effectively manage the transition and maintain a stable power supply for all citizens," Rockson stated in the press release issued on July 9, 2025.
Strategic Energy Infrastructure Development
The announcement underscores the government's commitment to building a more robust energy foundation. The 30 MMscfd increase represents a significant boost to domestic natural gas capacity, supporting the nation's energy security objectives.
The Ministry emphasized that the enhancement aligns with broader goals of ensuring "a stable and sustainable energy future for all," while requesting public cooperation and understanding during the transition period.
The upgrade is expected to strengthen the country's energy independence and provide a more reliable foundation for power generation once the temporary export suspension concludes.
