Lagos, Nigeria | 13 August 2025 — Dangote Petroleum Refinery has launched a nationwide fuel distribution initiative, deploying 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks to deliver Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel directly to the Nigerian market. This investment is aimed at enhancing logistics efficiency, reducing transportation costs, and ensuring a steady fuel supply to key sectors, including manufacturing, telecommunications, transport, and power generation.

The refinery, Africa’s largest with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, will begin rolling out the trucks from August 15. This logistics expansion is designed to bypass traditional bottlenecks by supplying fuel directly to retail stations, industrial customers, and other major end-users—positioning Dangote as a direct competitor to local fuel traders.

The CNG-powered fleet reflects a strategic shift towards cleaner energy in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector. By using natural gas rather than diesel for transport, the refinery expects to lower its carbon footprint while aligning with Nigeria’s broader energy transition goals. This comes at a time when the country, Africa’s top oil exporter, is increasingly turning to gas as an alternative fuel following the removal of the petrol subsidy, which has caused pump prices to rise sharply.

This initiative would not only reduce operational costs but also ensure a reliable supply across both urban and rural markets. The move underscores the refinery’s ambition to reshape Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape by integrating high-volume production with an in-house, sustainable transport network.
