Energy Minister, Ghana Gas Board Inspect Atuabo Plant Maintenance

Atuabo, Western Region | 25 August 2025 — Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, joined the Board of the Ghana National Gas Company at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant to inspect scheduled maintenance works, a critical exercise designed to safeguard operational efficiency, safety, and the long-term reliability of Ghana’s gas infrastructure.

The inspection formed part of the minister’s working visit to the Western Region, where he emphasized government’s commitment to ensuring that the country’s flagship gas processing facility continues to deliver uninterrupted service to power producers and industrial users. Accompanied by board members and technical teams, the minister toured various units of the facility, reviewed safety protocols, and engaged plant managers on timelines for completion of the maintenance programme.

Mr. Jinapor commended Ghana Gas for embedding proactive maintenance into its operations, describing it as a hallmark of prudent asset management that protects national investments and underpins energy security. He further noted that the exercise aligns with the broader policy objective of integrating efficiency and resilience into Ghana’s energy value chain.

The visit also coincides with the government’s forward-looking agenda to expand domestic gas processing capacity. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Energy inaugurated the GPP2 Implementation Committee, tasked with driving the development of a second gas processing plant to complement Atuabo and meet rising national demand.

By tying together scheduled maintenance with expansion planning, the Ministry and Ghana Gas reaffirmed their shared commitment to a stable, efficient, and future-ready gas sector — one that supports industrialization, secures power supply, and strengthens Ghana’s role as a regional energy hub.
